Introduction to the LORP Draft EIR/EIS and Organizing to Develop Comments

WHEN: Thurs., Nov. 21, 2002, 6:00 pm

WHERE: Tom and Jo Heindel's home in Big Pine

WHO: You, and anyone else interested in helping OVC analyze this document

WHAT: Mark Bagley will chair this special meeting which will focus solely on the LORP Draft EIR/EIS. Mark has been involved with this issue for many years and represented the Sierra Club in negotiations that led to the 1997 MOU which further defined the LORP and set a timeline for its implementation.

Mark will provide an introduction to the document, outlining the major issues that should be of interest to OVC and reviewing some of the MOU requirements for the project. Additionally, he will provide suggestions for analyzing and commenting on the Draft EIR/EIS.

We will identify and prioritize the issues on which the group wants to focus and assign issues to volunteers who will commit to reading the pertinent sections of the document and help prepare draft comments.

Please check out the document before this meeting. We recommend you read the Executive Summary and the Introduction and review the Table of Contents. Check out sections in which you may have a special interest, such as grazing (in the land management plan sections), cultural resources, recreation, noxious weeds, or wildlife to name a few possibilities.
